Foreword
In 2013 the EU and the U.S. started negotiations about a free trade agreement which referred as Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). According to the European Commission, the main objectives of the partnership are to generate jobs and growth without using public money, enable a wider variety of goods and services, boost the EU's influence in the world – by attracting more investment, set high standards in global trade, and project EU values, use the unique opportunity to reform investment protection, help EU firms –particularly SMEs– to compete abroad, Expand trade rules to energy, competition and sustainable development.
However, a significant number of professionals did not welcome the TTIP pleased and raised many concerns in relation to the negotiations and the agreement. The main concerns are that the TTIP negotiations are nota s transparent as there should be, the rules laid down in the proposed texts threat the high standards of the EU in the fields of consumer protection, health, food safety, environmental protection etc. Besides of these, according to many professionals’ opinion, the most significant threat of TTIP is the Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) system.
In addition there is an internet movement, the www.stop-ttip.org which could gain 3.284.289 signatures on their petition.
